AT LEAST 11 people were killed and nine wounded in a daring attack by NDFB separatists in Assam on Sunday (October 4), at about 7.30 pm. Heavily armed militants of the outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) attacked Bhimajuli village near Biswanath Chariali in Sonitpur district of Assam.

The injured were shifted to a local hospital with multiple wounds, with the condition of many of them stated to be serious. The attack continued for about an hour with the militants firing randomly at people who came in their way, in a belt of about two to three kilometres.

The NDFB had recently served extortion demands to business people in the area. The extortion demands were not met by the locals and the attack could be in retaliation to that, police and other official sources as well as witnesses said. High level official rushed to the spot, a red alart was declared in Assam- Arunachal Pradesh border after the incident, three minors were reported to be injured in the attack.
