Need to colonise Moon and Mars for our survival else humanity is bound for doom: Stephen Hawking
Professor Hawking said that it is only a matter of time before our planet Earth, as we know it, is decimated by an asteroid strike or destroyed by some reasons that we, humans, have thrust upon it like the alarming rise in temperature and over population.

Every time we see or hear Stephen Hawking making a speech, it is but obvious that we are in for a lot of surprises. Not to take away the credit of his sense of humor but he sure scares us a lot with his speeches.

Also, fact is that when someone of the stature of Stephen Hawking says something, you can't doubt it outrightly, if not trust it blindly. One such speech was made by him recently at the Starmus Science Festival in Trondheim, Norway, in which the astrophysicist claimed that he was convinced of the fact that humanity would be wiped off if we don't colonise the Moon and Mars for our survival. He said that we need to take a Noah's Ark of plants, animals, fungi and insects, to start creating a new world if we are to ensure our survival.

Professor Hawking said, "I am convinced that humans need to leave Earth. The Earth is becoming too small for us, our physical resources are being drained at an alarming rate."

According to Professor Hawking, the nearest options available for us to colonise are Moon and Mars. He says that we would be able to make a lunar base in the coming 30 years, and that in a further 20 years, we would be able to make Mars as our colony.

"I hope it would unite competitive nations in a single goal, to face the common challenge for us all," Stephen Hawking said at the Starmus Festival in Norway.
