Need to create awareness about the national flag code on various occasions and in general
There is need to create proper awareness about hoisting and carrying national flag on the national days and other events or occasions. Of late, a trend has caught up since the Honourable Supreme Court's decision making it legal for any citizen to fly the national flag, the flags are getting put up on the houses and private buildings.

However, the rules to be followed that are mentioned in the Flag Code of India are often ignored. It needs to be understood that when the flag is carried in a rally, procession or a parade, it should be held in the right hand. If there is a line of other flags, the national flag should be in the middle. Moreover, the flag should not be stooped downwards in respect to any person or thing.

When the flag is displayed on a vehicle, it should be attached to a staff affixed firmly on its bonnet and saffron band must be upper most.

Another rule is that only on Independence Day and Republic Day flower petals are kept inside the flag before it is unfurled. Also, during the ceremony of hoisting or lowering of the flag, all persons present should face the flag and stand at attention. Those present in uniform should render the appropriate salute.

Furthermore, during a parade, when the flag is in a moving column, persons present will stand at attention and salute as the flag passes by them.

Recently, Khudiram Bose’s martyrdom day cum Independence Day rally of school children was held at Jillay village in Rajasthan supported by various private and government schools along with social organizations and commercial enterprises in which several hundred students took part.

Along with singing patriotic songs and raising slogans hailing freedom and Mother India’s struggle the students marched through the streets and lanes of the village. It was told that a rally of this kind had been organized for the first time to evoke a patriotic spirit among villagers and remember freedom fighter Khudiram Bose who was one of the youngest revolutionaries of the Indian independence movement.

However, there were a few who reacted that such rallies were not desirable since observation of martyrdom day and the National Day is a solemn affair to be done in individual schools rather than driving children to street with slogan shouting.
