Negligence of duty by traffic police causing chaos on roads
People are so confident of corruption that they feel even if they are caught by the traffic police, they will just pay the bribe of Rs 50 to 60 and would escape from paying a proper fine.
IT IS in our day-to-day routine to encounter scenes of traffic chaos on roads leading to traffic jams for hours. Why the people face the problem and torture of overcharging from rickshaw pullers etc because the transporters have also been charged by the traffic policemen in the name of monthly tax which the traffic police demands from them. We can't run away from a situation like this.

Gone are the days of 1950's and 60's where there was lesser traffic on roads and not much work for the traffic police. The world is speeding, so is the life of people and they have either no time to follow the rules as they are always in a hurry to reach somewhere or the other and time spent on travelling seems a mere wastage of time. Or people are so confident of corruption that they feel even if they are caught by the traffic police, they will just pay the bribe of Rs 50 to 60 and would escape from paying a proper fine.

Everyone must have heard about the accident in which a bullock cart crashed with cars in Connaught Place. Had the traffic police not allowed the bullock carts in the non-driving zone the accident would have been prevented. The duty of traffic police is to punish the guilty but they in turn are guilty themselves, they take salaries as well as "fee" from the common people to let them off for traffic violations. It will be shocking to know that a job in traffic police is actually "sold" for lakhs. People are ready to pay lakhs in bribe for such a lucrative opportunity.

The conduct of traffic police can go a long way in improving the situation on the roads. People should be afraid of breaking rules and respect law and not feel free to violate the rules instead all because they will be let off for a mere Rs 50.
