New Assamese movie launched in Guwahati
The New Year has started on a good note for Assamese Cinema. Director M Maniram has announced his second movie 'U R Not My Julie' and is set to begin filming soon. His first movie has set high standards and hopes are high from this one too.
RIDING ON the high tide of success and acceptance with his very first movie, young filmmaker from Assam, M Maniran is all set for the camera to roll for his second movie. With the New Year celebrations still on, M Maniram launched his second venture – another full-length feature film boldly titled “U R Not My Julie” to be produced under the banner of Aishani Films.

M Maniram emerged as a name to reckon with in Assamese cinema with his directorial debut on celluloid - a thought-provoking entertainer “Mon Jai.”  Its release created ripples at a time when Assamese movie industry was passing through an all-time low phase. The movie not only captivated young viewers who had otherwise adapted to multiplex culture with big budget entertainers from Hollywood or Bollywood, but also compelled the discerning audience to take note of the determined filmmaker in Maniram.

The story revolves around four unemployed youths who dream of striking gold some day. Set in the sub-urban milieu of Assam, the movie explored, in a very subtle way, the growing frustration and desperation of the youth of today trapped between values and ideology on one side and nepotism on the other. With a small budget and a team of young professionals, Maniram went on to screen his dream in the prestigious International Film Festival of India that year as part of the Indian Panorama package. But everything said and done, a filmmaker’s quest for a packed theatre back home remained somewhat short of expectations. M Maniram admitted that the lack of a calculative promotion campaign may have proved a hindrance for “Mon Jai” to reach out to the larger audience.

But this time around, Maniram is better prepared. The shooting of his second movie is expected to begin late January. With experience in his kitty, the dynamic filmmaker has authoritatively acknowledged an intricate publicity design ready for the movie. The entire production team also appeared optimistic on the planned layout of the pre-release promos and the involvement of big firms and brands.

While unveiling his second venture, “U R Not My Julie”, M Maniram also candidly admitted that it will be an outright entertainer with all the commercial elements, but with a tasteful treatment. Produced by Bhaskar Sharma of Aishani Films, the movie will see upcoming actor Nayan Nilim treading into the movie-making process as the co-producer who will also be playing the male lead. However, the team has kept the female lead a closely guarded secret with only a passing hint of launching a new face.
Manas Robin who has enthralled Assamese listeners with his melodies over the last few years is lending music to this movie. The story is essentially a love plot and is expected to have around four songs to be extensively picturized in various locales like Laddakh, Goa and Shillong.

“U R Not My Julie” will also usher in newer technology to the state with its use of an HD Red camera for the filming. The movie, targeted for release within this year, will also have the distinction of being the first Assamese movie to be released simultaneously in all theatres across Assam through UFO, the digital screening system.
