New format for admission to IITs will make admission tough
This article is about getting admission to IITs and the agreement over a new format between the IIT boards and the government.

THE ISSUE about getting admission to IITs through a CEE for all students has now been resolved. The IITs all opposed the HRD minister’s move and refused to take is directive. Finally, the issue was resolved between the two at a meeting held in the capital on June 27, 2012.

As per the new format a student has to be in top 20 ranks in their board exams with the condition that they achieve rank in the qualifying examination. The new format comes into effect from the 2013 academic year. The new format replaces the proposed CEE for all IITs and NITs.

The agreement over the issue comes after months with the two coming together in New Delhi. While the union HRD Minister failed to attend the meeting, the IIT board and governing council members from the government attended the meeting.

The IITs and NITs expressed the view that the new format will help reduce the students' burden, and the HRD Minister expressed similar views. The proposed new format will be tough and more competitive for students to gain admission in to IITs and NITs.
