A LEADING Hindi news channel of India on Thursday (November 13) telecast a special video, comparing the former Indian cricket captain, Sourav Ganguly with Bollywood heartthrob Salman Khan. The title of the video was : “Ganguly is the Salman of cricket” (cricket ka Salman hai Ganguly).

The video showed that the character of Sourav Ganguly and Salman Khan is similar. Both of them stripped their shirts in front of the public. Both of them have huge fan following. It is to be mentioned here that Sourav fluttered his jersey in Lords Stadium, United Kingdom, after India won the Natwest Trophy against England in 2002 on their soil. Sourav did the same after Flintoff, the English all-rounder threw off his jersey when England defeated India in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

Such a behaviour by Flintoff had hurt the Indian audience immensely.

It was mentioned in the news report that both Sourav and Salman were embroiled in scandals involving leading ladies of bollywood. While Sourav was rumoured to be involved with Nagma, Salman was seen cosying up with bollywood damsels like Aishwarya and Katrina.

Salman was even accused of chinkara-killing and reckless driving in a drunken state. However, the channel also mentioned that Sourav has not committed any such crimes so far.

The news channel compared the fans of both stars in numbers and categories. When Sourav was the captain of the Indian cricket team, his fans used to organise ’yajna’ (a ritual practice) for his as well as team India’s victory in all the matches. Ganguly was also greeted by his fans with garlands, bouquets and gifts when he returned back to Kolkata, after winning the India - Australia Test series 2-0.

Sourav had announced his retirement from the Indian cricket just before the recently concluded Test series stating that India-Australia Test Series would be his last match.
