A NGO has suggested an expenditure of Rs. 50 crore to change the street lights of Kolkata. It is good or bad, let the readers decide. By changing the street lights electricity consumption will be reduced but not become negative. If solar-powered street lights are introduced then it will totally eliminate current consumption thereby saving a lot of money in the hands of Kolkata Corporation. This money can be used in paying off the World Bank loan within stipulated time. This lighting system has been put up in Pondicherry Beach where it is functioning pretty well for last seven years or more. So why not solar lighting.

I am planning to set up solar Lantern in villages where there is no electricity especially in some rooms where village students can come and study. NGO concerned should concentrate on villages where need for such is more than the town where affluent people stays. Is it some vested interest?
I had suggested setting up nitrogen based packing system in different places which will serve a cluster of villages. As per statistics made available 45 per cent of the vegetables are getting rotten up due to slow consumption. These excess vegetables can be cut cleaned and packed with nitrogen gas. We need to provide agriculturist a solar-based cold storage box which cost roughly Rs. 20,000. The plant will cost some 6 lakh and boxes will cost some extra. Unfortunately, Agricultural Minister of West Bengal has send a project report of 50 crore to Centre to set up plant, which we all know to be rejected.
