Nine CRPF personnel killed in naxal attack in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district
On Tuesday, at least nine personnel of the 212 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed in a powerful IED blast carried out by Maoists in Sukma district of the state of Chhattisgarh.

The incident occurred toady at around 12.30 pm in a forest in the Kistaram area when the personnel were conducting area-domination operation. The mine protected vehicle (MPV) in which the CRPF men were travelling from Kistaram to Palodi was blown up by the naxalites in series of IED blasts.

Special DG (Anti-Naxal Operations) DM Awasthi has confirmed that while 9 CRPF personnel have died in the attack, two others have been injured.

A helicopter has been pressed into service for airlifting victims to the state capital Raipur for medical treatment. According to sources, casualties could rise further.

In April last year, in the largest ever Maoist attack on CRPF in Chhattisgarh carried out in the last seven years, 25 jawans had been killed and six injured in an ambush attack in Sukma district.
