Nintendo Japan has announced that they will present the newest portable console, the Nintendo 3DS, between April 2010 and March 2011. The new handheld will offer 3D viewing without glasses. It'll have two screens just like previous portables, but they'll be used in conjunction as one giant screen.
The Nintendo 3DS will succeed the Nintendo DS series and will have backward compatibility for Nintendo DS and DSi games. It is pertinent to mention that the Nintendo 3DS is a new hardware series. It'll include two cameras (one backwards-facing, one forward-facing), just like the DSi—for DSi backwards compatibility support and 3D control sticks will help with gaming.
Unlike the recent flurry of three dimensional films and TV technologies, the new machine, tentatively called the Nintendo 3DS, will not require users to wear special glasses to view images in 3-D. The screen might be higher-res than anything from Nintendo before, maybe reaching 720p—and measuring around the same size as the DS.
The announcement also stated that gamers will know more once this year’s E3 kicks off. The show will be held from June 15, 2010 at Los Angeles in the United States.
