Nirankari Mission head Baba Hardev Singh cremated
The funeral of Nirankari Mission head Baba Hardev Singh, who died in a car accident in Canada on May 13, took place at Delhi's Nigam Bodh Crematorium Ground today.

Thousands of devotees proceeded towards the crematorium ground which led to the traffic being closed from Chandgi Ram Akhara to Nigam Bodh Ghat. Traffic snarls were also seen around ISBT, Kashmiri Gate, Khalsa College and Mukarba Chowk.

Delhi Police issued a statement asking people to avoid the stretch from Kingsway Camp Chowk to I.P. College (Mall Road). The Sant Nirankari Mission had also made arrangements to live stream the video of the last rites for people who cannot make it to the funeral ground in person.

The Nirankari sect has decided to make Savinder Kaur, widow of the deceased Baba Hardev Singh as head of the sect. This makes her the first woman and the fifth in line to head the sect founded in 1929.

On Monday RSS paid tributes to Baba Hardev Singh. In a joint condolence message RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and his deputy Suresh Bhayyaji Joshi had said, "The departure of the Nirankari Baba is like an irreparable loss to a valuable asset of the spiritual world."

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders also attended the last 'darshan' of Baba Hardev Singh in Burari and paid homage to the saint.
