THE INDIAN small car market, once solely dominated by domestic manufacturer Maruti, is now crowded with various international players. And now the Japanese car major Nissan is also going to join the league. Sources from Nissan said that it will launch it’s much awaited and anticipated small car Micra in India in July and also added that the base model will be rolled out with a price tag lower than Rs.4 lakh.
Company sources informed that the new Nissan Micra will be unveiled nationwide on July, 14, 2010. It must be added that the company will be operated in India by it’s wholly owned subsidiary Nissan motor India and it will roll out the Micra model from it’s newly started manufacturing facility established Orgadam near Chennai. The new Micra, which comes with 1.2 litre petrol engine, will basically compete with Hyundai’s i10 and Maruti’s Swift.Nissan has already started endorsing and promoting the product with TV commercials. It has roped in Bollywood’s new chocolate boy star, Ranbir Kapoor as it’s brand ambassador. The booking of the car had already started in last of May and so far has received an impressive 1,049 orders, at least as a new entrant in the segment. The company is intended to produce at least 80,000 units of the new Micra, to meet the demand of domestic and also export market in the first year. The Japanese car maker is hopeful to start selling around 100,000 vehicles in India by 2013. It’s planning to launch nine other models in the next two years, including the Sedan version of Micra.
