In Dharamshala, Lobsang Sangay, prime minister of the Tibetan government in-exile, urged Tibetans not to celebrate Losar today but to raise voice against the alleged human rights violations in Tibet. He asked Tibetans to observe only customary religious rituals and forego festivities.
ON THE occasion of Losar, Lobsang Sangay called on world community to show their solidarity and to raise their voices in support of the fundamental rights of the Tibetan people.
The Tibetan New Year day called Losar is observed as a mark of its beginning of but the celebrations last for one complete fortnight. But, the main celebrations last for three days which are observed by the Tibetan Buddhists worldwide.
Losar is always associated with an animal and this year it is associated with male water Dragon. Losar is also celebrated by Indian hill tribes like Monpa,Yolmo, Sherpa, and Tamang with an exchange of the traditional greeting "Tashi Delek".
On the eve of Losar, The Buddhist monasteries are decorated and the protector deities' are worshipped and special noodle curry called ‘guthuk’ is prepared. On the morning of Losar, Tibetan Buddhist families rise before dawn, bathe and put on new clothes to make offerings at their family shrine first. Thereafter families visit local monasteries for payers and feasting.
