No 'illegal immigrants' should be rehabilitated: ABSU
More than 70 people have lost their lives during the ongoing clashes in the Bodoland Territorial Area District (BTAD) areas. Various students unions and other civil society groups are demanding that peace must be restored and government must take necessary steps to bring normalcy in the region.

THE ALL Bodo Students Union (ABSU) observed an 8-hour hunger strike from 8 am to 4 pm on August 8 at the Lakhidhar Bora Khetra in Guwahati. Condemning the unwanted group clashes presently taking place in the districts of Dhubri, Kokrajhar and Chirang in Assam, ABSU appealled for peace from all sections of people and to stop the group clashes which will create hatred amongst the people and destroy the humanity.

The hunger strike was observed against the present ongoing situation of group clashes in these districts, which have led to death of innocent lives, damage of property and insecurity of the people in the region. The hunger strike was attended by Pramod Boro and Jiron Basumatary, President and General Secretary apart from other office bearers and members.

Through this hunger strike ABSU made a number of demands, which included: The Government should immediately supply sufficient food material and the food for the babies, medicine, clothes and textbook (to the students) to the inmates of the relief camps. They demanded adequate security for rehabilitation of the inmates of the camp at their respective places. The rehabilitation of the relief camp inmates should be done steadily but not hurriedly so that affected people can build up confidence on the security of their lives and property.

ABSU also demanded proper scrutiny of the relief inmates before rehabilitation in the districts of Kokrajhar and Chirang so that no illegal immigrants can be settled. They demanded protection of tribal belts and block and land belonging to genuine Indian indigenous people. Government must resolve the illegal immigrant issue with time bound policy for permanent peace and integrity in the region by updating NRC based on 1971 electoral roll.

Later the demands were sent to chief minister of Assam and also to union home secretary signed by the President and General Secretary of the organization. Members from other students unions like All Assam Students Union, All Assam Gorkha Student Union and others had also joined the programme.

Dear Mr. Ranjan K Baruah, The Assam problems is nothing but our governments failure in checking Bangladeshis unrestricted inflow. Assam today faces two kinds of floods i.e. From Brahmputra and the other from Bangladeshi Muslims. Sadly our corrupt administration hand in glove with ULFA etc does nothing to check this menace but give them voter/Adhaar/ration/ cards. Govt should cancel all such ID of non locals from 1971 on wards immediately or our North East is doomed. Today these Bangladeshi Muslims like cancer have spread and upsurged land belonging to N Eastern Indians. We should send these Muslims back in earnest or commit vasectomy on them as soon as possible otherwise another partition would again be due. My heart and my best wishes to all the indigenous people - my brethren in the north east for tackling this menace. I doubt that the Congress/CPM have vested interests in bringing them in and also will eat up the relief money by their corrupt ways.
