THERE WAS little relief for residents of Mumbai on Wednesday (July 15) as rains continued to lash the Metropolis. Transport services were affected by the heavy downpour but the movement of traffic was not disrupted and vehicles were seen moving at slow pace.
Poor visibility at the airport lead to flight delays as Mumbai recorded 240 mm rainfall during the last one day. Yesterday, heavy rainfall had caused massive water logging in several low lying areas causing traffic snarls and train services had to be stopped as well.
On Jogeshgwari-Vikhroli link road, landslide was caused by the rains but no casualty was reported in the incident. Police informed that an operation has been launched to clear the area of debris.
Little relief is likely to be expected in Mumbai as Meteorological Department predicted more spells of heavy rains, coupled with strong winds.
As the sea is rough, Met officials have asked fishermen not to venture into the sea for the next 24 hours. Mumbai residents are keeping their fingers crossed as sea is likely to witness high tides during the next week.
