No unwanted telemarketing calls, SMSes from September 27
In the country there are over 850 million mobile and over 34 million fixed line subscribers will get relief from pesky calls and SMSes from September 27, who have registered with the National Customer Preference Registry (NCPR).
FINALLY MILLION telecom users, who are using either mobile or landline services, are going to be happy from September 27 as they will get relief from pesky calls and SMSes. In the country there are over 850 million mobile and over 34 million fixed line subscribers.
The Telecom Regulatory Act of India (TRAI) has said from September 27 the regulations are being implemented and all those customers who have registered with the National Customer Preference Registry, would get relief from all commercial communication.
Telecom users, who wish to stop receiving telemarketing calls or SMSes, can dial 1909 or send an SMS to 1909. Users can register themselves for the fully blocked category or the partially blocked category. In the fully blocked category, no commercial call or SMS will be allowed, whereas in the partially blocked category, the user will not receive any call but will receive SMSes chosen by him from the seven categories including banking and financial products, real estate, education, health, consumer goods, automobiles, communication and entertainment, tourism and leisure.After the registration on NCPR, a unique registration number will be received via SMS within 24 hours of registration for further reference. A week after the registration at NCPR, if user receives telemarketing calls or SMSes, he/she can make a complaint to their respective service provider company. Telecom users can also find that their number is registered in NCPR or not after enter their 10 digit mobile number and in case of landline with STD Code without prefixing 0 at the nccptrai.gov.in/nccpregistry/search.misc. Last year, the Telecom Regulatory Act of India had recommended a maximum fine of Rs. 2.5 lakh on telemarketing companies to a consumer registered under the NCPR for making unwanted calls or SMSes.
