Mohammad Salim, the spokesperson of CPI(M), blames the present government of West Bengal for its in-action and also for encouraging the rapists and criminals who have been involved in such cases by not taking strict action against them.
Salim said, “Till now their is no regret on the government's part and the police administration. The government from very beginning is in a denial mode and is claiming the opposition and the media for highlighting such stories.”
Commenting on the opposition's accusations against the TMC-led Government, Savitri Mitra, the minister of Social Welfare Department said that CPM is unnecessarily blaming the Trinamool government, “Mamata ji is taking every measure to curb the rape cases happening in West Bengal, she has ordered the police to arrest the culprits as early as possible and to take immediate action against them.”
CPM's spokesperson further said, "Mamata banerjee has always blamed left, saying that the opposition is cooking such stories. And when the police administration is getting such messages from the top level, in-spite of stopping such cases and taking strong action against the culprit, the Chief Minister is saying that all these things are bogus and cocktail stories. So, the criminals are becoming more embolden."
CPM feels that Government is focusing more on hiding the issue rather than punishing the criminals. And when such incidents come up, they are now threatening the victims and are booking them under some fake cases.
“We can see a series of gang rapes coming up in West Bengal and No women in West Bengal is safe. Their is a big jump in the number of cases in crime against women and it is the societal attitude and the political atmosphere which is encouraging such incidents,” said Salim.
