NOKIA SUED Apple over patent infringement related to iPad. Nokia, the world's largest phone maker, has sued Apple again this week, this time over patent infringement related to the iPad 3G. The Apple-Nokia dispute could continue for years. Nokia has now said that Apple’s iPad 3G contains five patent infringements. The infringements involve technology used to enhance speech and data transmission and antenna innovations for compact devices.
The case has been filed in federal court in Madison, Wisconsin. The application filed by Nokia is a step in the war of patents against Apple, one of its main competitors in the segment of smartphones. Earlier, Apple had an issue with a popular technology blog Gizmodo for publishing the details about it’s yet to be released iPhone 4G. This is the third lawsuit that Nokia filed against Apple.
Paul Melin, general manager of patent licensing, Nokia said, Nokia has been the leading developer of many key technologies in mobile devices. He also added that we have taken this step to protect the results of our pioneering development and to put an end to continued unlawful use of Nokia's innovation. In a statement, the mobile giant Nokia said that during the past two decades Nokia has invested about $51bn in research and development and has rounded up 11,000 patents.
