FINNISH HANDSET giant, Nokia on Monday claimed said that it will activate its enterprise messaging server for India on November 5. The announcement comes after its features were given a clean chit by the security agencies. The enterprise server which will be set in India in the backdrop of government agencies raising security concerns, is likely to put pressure on BlackBerry to follow suit.
Nokia Managing Director D. Shivakumar at a press conference in New Delhi said that Nokia will be launching the server on November 5 in compliance with all the rules and regulation in the country. Shivakumar further said that the company is doing every bit to beef up security in compliance with conditions set up by the Indian security agencies. It is pertinent to mention that unlike BlackBerry manufacturer Research In Motion (RIM), Nokia responded quickly to the governments concerns and also went on to provide quick fix solutions to the various security related issues. BlackBerry, on the other hand carries a risk of closure of services from tomorrow (Tuesday) onwards if the Indian security agencies are not given sustainable solutions.
Industry watchers note that Nokia's sale of smartphones has shot up considerably after BlackBerry's India customers faced the risk of a possible blackout of its services. Nokia had earlier launched the Beta version of its messaging services in April 2009. With this service, users can use up to 10 email accounts to move on with the service.
