Nominations of the 2012 Golden Globe award
It is the 69th year for the Golden Globe awards and it has already started making headlines. The actors are gearing up for their appearance on the red carpet and audiences are excited as this will establish whether their favourite film stands a chance in the Oscars or not.

THE 69th Golden Globe awards 2012 are scheduled to be hosted on February 26. After the People’s Choice Award and the Critic’s Award, this is the third film award. Although scheduled to be the third, this award has a great influence in terms of the fact that it actually shows which films will make it to the Oscars and which films have the potential to win the golden lady. Many critics do not rate the golden Globe highly but for the actors it is almost like warming up before facing the actual match.

This year’s Golden Globe nominations are already out and there are many expected surprises in the list. The best film drama cetegory has the The Descendants, The Help, Hugo, The Ides of  March, Moneyball and War Horse. Comedy films will include 50/50, The Artist, Bridesmaids, Carnage, Midnight in Paris and My Week With Marilyn. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, Michael Fassbender and Leonardo DiCaprio will have to fight it out for the best actor and Glenn Close, Viola Davis, Rooney Mara, Meryl Streep and Tilda Swinton have been nominated for the best actress roles.

Founded in the 1940s during World War II, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association  (HFPA) originally came to being when some LA based journalists came together and wanted to bridge the international community with Hollywood, and to provide a distraction from the hardships of war through film.

The award represents 55 countries and 93 members of the HFPA recognise the work in television and films, both domestic and foreign. The award ceremony is broadcasted in 167 countries worldwide and is the third most watched award functions after Oscars and Grammy.

Apart from the major categories the award also recognises the work done by musicians, scripwriters, screenplays and supporting actor and actresses. Not only the actors but even the audience wait eagerly for the award function.
