As per official sources, apprehending law and order problem in Anantnag, where a youth was allegedly killed in firing on August 30, curfew remained in force in the town. Rest of the valley saw things returning to normal after hardline Hurriyat conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani called off its agitation program for the time being.Respite came for students as schools and colleges opened up on Wednesday after experiencing a closure of four days. Public buses were also seen plying on the roads.
With the markets bustling with activity, large number of people gathered outside banks and ATM's where long serpentine queues were witnessed.Although the situation was under control, protests were seen in Srinagar's Maisuma locality where protesters demanded early action against the policeman, who unnecessarily shot at a boy and critically injured him on August 30.Protests in Kashmir had begun, when a teenager was shot dead on June 11 thus agitating the masses leading to violence throughout the state. The teenager was killed after he was allegedly hit by a teargas smoke shell near Rajouri Kadal area in the old city.
