North East's Maria Public School shines at a UN conference
Guwahati's Maria Public School has given a spectacular performance at the UNIS (United Nations International School)-UN conference in New York. The school had sent a delegation of six students to the global conference, which is held every year at the UN's general assembly hall.

The students had worked on a film titled “Awakening” which was screened ‘second’ at the conference. They had also written a poem titled “The Change”, which had also been selected on this global platform. Participating student Phameninao Shaiza had recited the poem in front of the international delegates and participants at the United Nations General Assembly hall.

The students had also prepared well for a debate keeping “Youth quake” in mind, as that is the theme for this year’s conference. They had won accolades and honours at the conference, winning at the Poem and Short Film Competitions.

The six students who have participated in the conference are Antareep Hazarika, Surya Prakash Medhi, Srijani Roy Chaudhury, Phameinao Shaiza and Filzah Belal, along with the teachers-cum- advisors Arnavi Chakraborty and Nandita Barua.

The school’s managing trustee Nellie Ahmed Tanweer has been sending her students to the conference every year since 2007 to provide them an international interaction platform so that they can transform themselves as global students.
