North Tamil Nadu hit by the cyclone 'Nilam', normal life disrupted
The coastal areas of north Tamil Nadu were hit by the cyclone 'Nilam' on October 30 that brought heavy rains disrupting normal life. With the depression in the Bay of Bengal turning into the cyclone several parts of the state experienced incessant down pour since morning.

DUE TO heavy rains caused by the cyclone Nilam, the low lying areas of coastal districts of Tamil Nadu were inundated affecting traffic and closere of educational institutions. Even today, it has been declared a holiday for educational areas in the coastal districts.

Though no loss of life has been reported, however, heavy rainfall would continue over coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 12 hours. The storm is likely to cross the coast of Tamil Nadu to reach Andhra Pradesh today.

According to Met office, sea conditions will be very rough off north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and  south Andhra Pradesh coasts during the next 48 hours. Accordingly, fishermen in these areas have been advised not to venture into the sea.
