Not only willpower and courage, writing a novel demands time
Rome wasn't built in a day, so goes a maxim. It is ironic that the same applies to every writer. A person who knows nothing about writing thinks that the writer must have sat through it in one sitting in front of the computer and written a whole fifty thousand word novel, and become famous.

This is obviously false. Anybody who is struggling to be a writer knows that no book was written in a single day. It takes days, months and sometimes years to get the right plot, the right words and the right characters to build a book. Apart from that, a writer faces the inner conflicts with his mind and heart about going on a certain path.

All said and done, any famous writer will tell you that they finished a book by writing every single day. There is a lot of difference between writing often or sometimes or occasionally and writing EVERY SINGLE DAY. It takes a lot of will power and courage to face your computer every single day waiting for inspiration to strike at the right moment so that you write towards completing that novel which has been living inside your head since ages. Once you put your heart into it, you will see that it becomes habitual for you to write everyday just like you brush your teeth or eat your food every day. It comes naturally instead of writing being a chore.

To achieve habitual writing every day, you will have to practice writing each day at least for a few minutes. Forget the dishes, the phone ringing, the bills to be paid, the clothes that need wash, the plants that need water and friends who want to chat. Forget everything for a while and see that you get writing done in those minutes.

At the end, you will see how your novel builds up in front of your eyes every single day.
