Not so merry - Marigold
Marigold, hailed as Salman Khan’s foray into Hollywood is a shocker; shocker because, I really can’t see Salman making any inroads with this flick into Bollywood; forget, Hollywood.

THE FILM tells the story of a snooty white skinned female Marigold (Ali Larter). She is flying to India to shoot for her upcoming flick, Kamasutra 3 (white skinned female = sex object; sic). Once here, she is told by a production hand (Suchitra Pillai) that the film is shelved. The producers and the financers were farce.

Cut to a bollywood flick being shot, rather a song picturisation to be precise. The hero Raj (Vikas Bhalla; puhleeze!) casts his eye-sleaze on apnee gori mem, Marigold.

Cut to night club where the ‘hero’ very blatantly tells the firang babe to mate him, way to go man! Yes the ‘hero’ gets a tight slap across his face for being outright gross.

Cut to the real ‘hero’ Prem (Salman Khan), who is a choreographer and makes Bhalla guy dance enter. He pops up a bottle and Miss Larter gets sizzled on the beach.

Giving parichay of true bhartiya sabhyata, Salman doesn’t get hanky panky with Ms. Larter, instead makes her a designer shack, where Larter wakes up he next morning.

Care for more review?

I dare.

The problem with the film is there is no story. To add to the script woes the film moves at a snail’s pace (rather walk).

The makers try to infuse shock element twice, but even that falls flat as the audiences know precisely the next plot-point in the screenplay.

Revelation of Salman Khan as a guy with blue blood (read prince) is expected because his bodyguard (Gulshan Grover) is established far too many times before his identity is revealed.

Cut to Jodhpur with real done to death extended family characters. A doting mom (Kiran Juneja) and a not so doting father (Vijeyendra Ghatge).

Naturally, pa dearest doesn’t want an actress that too with acting credentials in a slew of sleazy films to be his khaandaani bahu.

Enters his choice to don the mantle of khandaani bahu (Nandan Sen). And the film takes the Sooraj Barjatya, rather Hum Aapke Hain Kaun route.

Salman Khan breaks no new grounds with this flick.

Ali Larter, who is a B grade actress back in LA performs with ease and looks supremely confident.

Rest of the cast is just about fine.

The films’ technical aspects are nothing to marvel on. If at all, it captures the scenic Rajasthan beautifully; but then I just released (and forgotten) Aawarapan did it with much more beauty.

Marigold is probably Salman Khan’s worst film, if you have already forgotten films like Chandramukhi and Chaand Ka Tukda.
