Noted Gujarati writer and humorist Tarak Mehta passes away
Tarak Mehta, 84, a noted columnist, humorist, writer and playwright - better known for his column "Duniya Ne Undha Chasma" in Gujarati language - passed away after prolonged illness on March 1.

He became a household name through the TV show 'Tarak Mehta Ka Ultah Chashmah' based on his column. It became the flagship show of SAB TV.

Tarak was awarded Padma Shri in 2015. In 2011, Gujarat Sahitya Akademi awarded him Sahitya Gaurav Puraskar. He also won Ramanlal Nilkanth Hasya Paritoshik in 2017.

Prime Minister Narender Modi while condoling the death of Tarak Mehta tweeted his homage in Hindi.

Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani also condoled the death of Tarak Mehta: "Saddened by the death of Tarak Mehta - humorist & columnist. He always brought smile to our faces. My condolences to family members."

Condoling Tarak's demise, Delhi's CM Arvind Kejriwal also tweeted: Gujarati writer and Padma Shree Tarak Mehta ji passes away. May his soul rest in peace.
