Novak Djokovic, Caroline Wozniacki top seeds for US Open 2011
Novak Djokovic and Caroline Wozniacki have been declared as top seeds of the US Open in the men's and women's singles, respectively. People have high expectations from the last Grand Slam of the year.
THE SEEDS for the last Grand slam of the year, US Open, have been announced. Novak Djokovic has been given the top seed, his first top seed in the US Open. Djokovic is followed by Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, respectively. Andy Murray has been seeded fourth in the competition. The highest seeded American is Mardy Fish, who has been seeded number 8 in the competition. The US Open is scheduled to start on August 29 and end on September 11.
Djokovoic, who has never won the US Open title would be longing for the elusive title this year as he been in terrific form this season in the circuit. The closest he came to clinching the title was last year when he lost to Rafael Nadal in the finals. He lost the US Open finals to Federer in 2007.
Djokovic would be providing a great challenge to the rest of the players such as Nadal, Federer, Andy Murray, who are all keen to win the title.
Djokovic holds an impressive record with 57 victories and 2 losses during the season. Among the grand slam competitions that took place during the year, he won the Wimbledon and the Australian Open.
As far as the seeding for women’s singles are concerned, Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark, Vera Zvonareva from Russia and Maria Sharapova also from Russia have been seeded first, second and third, respectively. As usual, there is going to be a tough competition between the ladies, as there are so many players who are capable of winning the title apart from the top seeds. Li Na from China, who has been seeded sixth, Marion Bartoli seeded eighth, Serena Williams seeded 28 are also serious contenders for the competition.
Everyone awaits the last grand slam of the year. The fight for the title will be even stronger this year, due to the presence of quality players in the competition.
