There is another scam, the Gas Scam, which has lead to the Central Government exchequer losing crores of rupees in loss. The scam is as big as 2G scam and maybe more.
THE PEOPLE of India are very unfortunate as they have to hear every day a scam of big or small proportion. We have already heard the Mines scam, Spectrum scam but latest scam is GAS. The CAG (comptroller and auditor general) fired a bomb that Government of India has lost crores of rupees for the irregularities of Reliance Gas in KG Basin of Andhra Pradesh and Cairn Gas basin of Rajasthan.

The gas scam is none other smaller than 2G Spectrum scam. As per the ‘SAAKSHI” Telugu daily, the former secretary of Energy Mr. EAS Sarma identified this some months ago and wrote letters to PMO. But as usual they put aside the former energy secretary’s letters and did not even respond. He also wrote one more letter on 13th of June but it did not yield any result. The former energy secretary had conveyed his concern and admired how Reliance industries had captured the natural gas licenses at meager rates.
The income tax department had already smelled a rat that all energy officials were bending over to Mukesh Ambani and they did not care to take the loss incurred to government exchequer in a big way. The IT department later prepared a detailed note and submitted to CBI. The CAG has pointed out that the oil ministry has allowed RIL beyond the rules to explore the gas in KG Basin against the contract. The CAG has clearly said in its report that Oil ministry was aware of all irregularities done by RIL and allowed to explore the gas. RIL has got 7,654 square kms under its control but according to rules it has to hand over 4000 square kms to the government but it did not do so. The DGH (Directorate General of Hydrocarbons) and Energy department both acted in favor of RIL to explore the additional gas. Now, the gas agreement of RIL is under government scanner. What one can say is that ‘if one is caught then only he is a thief - until then he is Lord’.
