Now BSP offers unconditional support to UPA
In the wake of her party's dismal performance in the recent Lok Sabha Elections, BSP leader Mayawati at a party meeting have decided to give full support to the UPA lead government; while, claiming to keep the BJP out of power.

IN AN apparent move to keep her arch foe Samajwadi Party on the tenterhooks, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Tuesday offered unconditional support to the Congress led UPA from the outside.

Mayawati told a meeting of party leaders that BSP had decided to support the UPA with the objective of keeping the BJP out of power. This assertion, however, is likely to be pooh-poohed by the political analysts, who feel that this was an attempt to ensure that Samajwadi Party does not become too powerful under the present dispensation.

Mayawati claimed that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had called her on Sunday evening, seeking her party's stand on strengthening the secular forces in the country.

The UP chief minister said that BSP's national executive and parliamentary board had met today morning and discussed the issues in detail, before deciding to offer unconditional support to the UPA.

The BSP supremo's move comes in the wake of the failure of her party to perform to the expectations of the party bosses. While it was being speculated that party will manage to win 40 seats, the final tally stood merely at 21 Lok Sabha winners clearly sending the signal that the much touted social engineering had failed to bring in the results.

In the wake of the electoral debacle, BSP is likely to make changes in the party structures and some head are likely to roll, party watchers quipped.
