NRI beautician sentenced for 5 years for killing two
After two years, the drunk driving case came to a conclusion with a 5 years sentencing to the NRI beautician Nooriya Haveliwala on Thursday. She was also fined Rs 5 lakh by the special NDPS court for mowing down two persons, including a policeman under the influence of alcohol on January 30, 2010.
MUMBAI'S SPECIAL NDPS court finally convicted NRI beautician Nooriya Haveliwala on Thursday on account of killing two men, including a policemen, on 30th January 2010. She was found driving under influence of alcohol and rushed her SUV on people road side claiming the lives of two people. She was awarded 5 years of jail sentence and slapped Rs. 5 lakh fine by the court.
The court of Judge I M Bohri, however, acquitted her of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act charges and likely pronounce the quantum of punishment later in the day.
Nooriya was returning home from a party in south Mumbai’s Malabar Hill area on 29 January 2010 when the accident took place. She was taken into custody soon after the court held her guilty under section 304 (II) for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, Motor Vehicles Act and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, reported The Times of India.
The 27-year-old beautician had allegedly been driving at a very high speed when she lost control and struck a police jeep, a taxi and a motorcycle on Marine Drive in south Mumbai
on the night of 29-30 January of 2010 and killed 2 people. She later tested positive for drugs and alcohol.
