They started by introducing My Opus Radio, which is a Bangalore based and a recently launched internet radio channel, the possibilities and future of Internet as an apt option for radio transmission. They further spoke about the 8 different channels under My Opus Radio which were later launched in February 2009 and gave a break up of their listenership statistics according to countries and cities (India). They added the various limitations especially regarding the government regulations of provision of Royalty and also about the different revenue models which have helped them to stand.The next speaker for the day was Mr. Vehrnon Ibrahim, VP Programming, Radio One. His talk was essentially concentrated to the emerging face of Radio.. He began with the drawing out of a comparison between Radio as a industry and Fishery. He quoted, ?We create and generate LISTENERSHIP and all the other reasons like content creation, entertainment, Information are all subsidiaries to it?. He stressed on the idea that they sell their listeners to their advertisers to generate revenue.
He also spoke about radio contests and games, about FCT?s (Fixed Commercial Time)The third speaker for the first session was Mr. B.Surendar, Sr. VP & National; Sales Head, Red FM. He gave a more detailed overview of the revenue model and the possibilities of Radio Industry today. He talked about geographical and genre expansion in radio, non FCT revenue model, the economy of radio etc. His session was pretty engrossing and the students tried to absorb every bit of the new found knowledge on this front. The session was followed by an interactive session with students moderated by the director himself. Students clarified their doubts and put forth questions which they wanted to know more about. The end of the first session saw its high with film maker Mahesh Manjrekar walking the stage who had visited the campus for a location recci for his new film. The post lunch session was also equally engaging with speakers like Mr. S.M. Shafiul Islam, University of Development Alternative, Dhaka, Bangladesh, Mr. Ashmat Mulla, Founder, Radio FTII, Mr. Mukesh Sharma, Director, AIR. The first speaker for the post lunch session which concentrated on the growth potential of Social and Development Communication using radio as an instrument for change was Mr. S.M. Shafiul Islam, University of Development Alternative, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He basically spoke on the radio scenario in Bangladesh and the important role that radio has played in combating social issues and natural disaster. He held radio as a medium which is cheap and best for developing nations.Mr. Ashmat Mulla, Founder, Radio FTII was the second speaker for the session.
