NSG membership - India must sort out China
On Indian application to NSG membership, finally China has shown its hand out in open. In the plenary session of NSG meeting at Seoul on 23-25 Jun, in the 48 member NSG group countries, 41 countries which included America, Russia, France and Britain wanted India to be made member right away since it met all the norms of non proliferation criteria as fixed by the NSG.

Out of balance of eight countries, Brazil, Mexico and Switzerland were not opposed to Indian membership but wanted parallel announcement of the criteria for membership. New Zealand and Ireland wanted criteria for membership decided first and then announcement of Indian membership but were not opposed to Indian membership.

South Africa again was not opposed to Indian membership but was keen to decide membership criteria first. Only country which was acting petty and small mind set nation was China. It initially was totally opposed to discussion on Indian membership. Later on it did relent to the extent that India's application can be discussed but no decision will be taken.

In other words China has exposed itself as the only country opposing Indian membership at all costs. It is now clear that it has placed all its eggs in Pakistan's basket. It has paid no heed to Indian President Pranab Mukherjee's request to Xi Jinping for his personal intervention. It has also cared too hoots to Indian foreign secretary S. Jaishankar to Beijing and Prime Minister Narendra Modis appeal to Chinese president at Tashkent.

After all this, it is time India wakes up to China's mind set of not allowing India to come out of South Asia region and its equating Pakistan with India policy. We must understand that China was our enemy, is our enemy and in future also will remain our enemy. So it is time India recalibrates its policy towards China in the national interest.

We must oppose China in all regional and world spheres. We must follow the policy that an enemy's enemy is our friend. In the near future India must do following things:

  • India should stop cooperation with China in world forum on all issues - to start with WTO and Climate change. We should only see our national interest and nothing else.

  • India must take a hard stand against China openly in South China Sea dispute case. It must be seen taking sides with the ASEAN countries.

  • India must go all out to cooperate with Japan and tell China thank you for its investment in India. We do not need it!

  • We must not allow Chinese companies dumping in India. The Rs 60000 corer bilateral trade with China is heavily skewed towards China, we must stop it. We should trade on equal terms.

  • We must improve our ties with Taiwan; bring it to the same level as China-Pakistan ties. Tit for tat is the answer.

  • We must reinforce our grouping with the US, Australia and Japan in Asia pacific region.
