According to the National Crime Records Bureau, there is an increase in number of unidentified bodies who were either killed or died in accidents in Tamil Nadu.
MANY PEOPLE were killed either in accidents or attacks on them but the most unfortunate part of it is that no blood relation of any one killed, whose bodies lay in mortuaries of hospitals, came forward to bury the dead bodies. Every day, 12 bodies of dead or killed of unidentified men were reported in hospitals in India.
The number of unidentified bodies in hospitals all over India is 37,193, Out of this Tamil Nadu accounts for 4479, and this is an increase of 60 percent over 2010. The number of unidentified victims in Tamil Nadu is on the decline over the years. According to NCRB data, Maharashtra comes first in the list with 6313 bodies of unidentified victims followed by Tamil Nadu (4479 ), UP (4084 ) and West Bengal (3704 ) in the list.
According to Shivakumar who is doing the service of cremating or burying the unidentified bodies in hospitals agrees with the data of NCRB. He has requested the health department officials of the state government to provide better facilities for the unidentified who die in accidents or are killed. The hospital staff and officials dispose the bodies of the unidentified in three days. The unidentified victims are unfortunate - with no relation coming forward to take claim - may be due to their personal problems - but people like shivakumar are doing the job of cremating the unidentified victims, and this needs to be acknowledged. These people are God to many and have been taking this humane step for quite some time now.
