Number one rank not impossible says Saina Nehwal

Saina Nehwal has been performing on a consistent basis for some time now, and is keen on attaining the number one rank, which she has never done in her illustrious career.

SAINA NEHWAL, who won a bronze medal in the 2012 London Olympics launched her book, "Playing to Win" at Delhi, which was also attended by the Indian middle order batsmen, Yuvraj Singh. The Indian badminton player looked in a joyous mood, as she talked about a number of things related to her career and also her favourite movie, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, while interacting with with media persons were gathered at the venue.

Though, most of the questions asked to the Hyderabadi superstar were from her sport, badminton, where she has earned a big name not only in India, but also world over. She is someone who loves winning. No wonder the girl has reached great heights in the badminton world. In this nnis video, she said, “For me, more than playing badminton, winning is everything. I love winning, not badminton as much.” She is someone who is very hungry to win each and every match she plays.

It has been witnessed in the past that it is the Chinese players who dominate badminton, where she said, “India are much better talent wise (as compared to China). We have one academy and they have thousands of academies and also Olympic champions, coaches, etc.” With such kind of facilities, it is evident for Chinese players to win most of the tournaments world over. Hence, there is also a serious need for India to build such academies, if they are to be considered as a dominant force in badminton. Nehwal said, “There should be academies in every place (state) so people also get a stadium to play.”

Sania who is yet to attain the number one ranking has recorded a best of number two ranking and is currently ranked three believes that being ranked number one is not impossible, as she said in the video, “It is not easy, but I don't say it is impossible.” Sania has had an impressive year, where she has won as many as 5 singles titles along with 2 runner up finishes. Sania added, “With the kind of improvement, I am showing, of course, it (attaining number one rank) is not very far, but have to win each and every opponent.”

Sania who is still not in top fitness is eagerly awaiting for the Super Series final, which is going to be played among the top eight badminton players next month in China.
