The Obama government, in a bid to give impetus to the education sector, has announced that it'll allot $900 million to about five states in the district of Columbia who has shown an excellence in providing school education.

The 16 states which have been so far shortlisted are New York, Colorado, Florida, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Tennessee, North Carolina, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Ohio.
In the month of January, 40 states had submitted their applications. Now that the 15 states have been shortlisted, its up to the panel to decide which state have been the most successful in integrating enhanced testing standards, teacher training and data collection in their educational structure. The winners will be announced in the month of April.
This move by President Barack Obama is expected to improve the prevailing standards of local education in the country.
