SOME POLITICIANS today are hungry for power and are willing to spend huge amounts of money to get to the position of power in the coming elections. But the matter that remains unanswered is whether India is really facing a recession or obsession. Many individuals are keeping their money safe in the banks and do not want to spend even small amounts as fear has set in their hearts. And those who have nothing but their brains and skills cannot earn enough money to support their families.

On March 31, identity cards were given to individuals in Coimbatore who do not have a voter’s identity card. We still have to wait and see whether our names have been included in the list even though we have received our identity cards. Wrong names and wrong address are also a part of this list; our photos and names do not match in the identity cards given to us. Are there no educated individuals in our society who could type out the names properly in these identity cards and match it with the photographs taken out by them?

The task of issuing these identity cards was being handled by a single lady; the electorate should make sure that more individuals are employed to issue voter identity cards and all the identity cards are given in time for the elections.

Strict laws should be promulgated so that a person receiving money from any political party should be punished and a politician who gives money should also be punished.

The other points that have to be looked into by the politicians once they come to power should be that they should provide adequate loans to the business class and working class individuals of our society.

Provident fund schemes that are being operated by the post offices all over India should be included with pension facilities as the interest rate on these provident funds is only 8 per cent. Minimum balance in banks should be brought down to a minimum amount so that individuals can afford to have a savings account in these banks without getting their money cut by these banks when they fail to maintain a minimum balance of Rs 10,000. The minimum balance in the savings accounts varies from bank to bank and should be standardised. At present the ICICI Bank requires a balance of Rs 10,000 to maintain a saving account. How is it possible when many individuals do not get this amount as a salary every month?

Real estate prices should be brought down and strict laws should be formulated in keeping with the safety requirements of these buildings, so as to facilitate all individuals all over India, who could purchase flats and individual houses at a standardised cost. The Urban Ceiling Act should be brought into existence. Real estate prices should be brought down, as the current prices are too high a flat of 900 sq feet costs nothing less than Rs 25 lakhs, and it can only accommodate four individuals.

Government-owned houses in all states should be used for poverty-stricken individuals, regardless of caste, creed or religious background, so as to bring down the rate of suicides in our country and government should facilitate these individuals with an income so as to take care of their basic needs. Land in India is not a scarce commodity, if allocated properly, we, the citizens of India could end up a prosperous nation.

Bribes paid to government officials should be put to an end and any government official receiving a bribe should be punished. In the transport department and at border limits bribery is rampant, all over India. If raids are conducted in the residences of these officials, India will become a prosperous nation. This will also help us as a nation to curb terrorist activities.
