October 13: The day when Ashok Kumar was born and Kishore died
October 13 holds a special place in the Indian film industry as today is the day, in the year 1911, Ashok Kumar was born, and it was on October 13, in the year 1987, that his younger brother Kishore Kumar died.

OCTOBER 13 will be remembered for two important reasons in Bollywood. It is a day when legendary actor Ashok Kumar was born and it's the same day when singer and actor Kishore Kumar died. Both the brothers earned fame from the start of their career. They were born to a Bengali family, where Kishore Kumar was the youngest of the four siblings and Ashok Kumar was the eldest. October 13, 2011 also marks the birth centenary year for Ashok Kumar, but their families have decided to keep it a low-profile affair as they would be exhibiting his paintings on November 13. It is due to the unfortunate death of Ashok’s brother Kishore on the same date in the year 1987, which prompted the family not to make it a big affair.

Ashok Kumar rocketed into fame with his acting skills that was respected all over the country and also by his co-actors. He was also a very good painter, but it is the Ashok the actor that gave him a greater name in the industry. It has been said that the actor played a major role in more than 275 films apart from some Bengali dramas. He bid adieu to the world on December 10, 2001, due to heart failure in Mumbai. The last movie that he acted in was in the year 1997 for Aankhon Mein Tum Ho.

On the other hand Kishore Kumar, whose birth name is Abhas Kumar Ganguly, started his career as a chorus singer in Bombay Talkies. His brother, Ashok was very inclined in making his brother an actor too, so he got some assignments ready for his brother, Kishore was more interested in making a career as a singer. When we look back at his career, he took a very good decision as his fans are spread all over the world, and he still have a huge fan base due to his songs. Some of his evergreen songs are tere bina zindagi se, o majhi re, chookar mere mann ko, and roop tera mastana among a list of many. He has also received many awards such as Best Male Playback singer for movies such as Kora Kagaaz, Andaaz, and Aradhana, etc.

This Bengali family would always be remembered for their contribution to the Indian film industry. Both Ashok and Kishore were very passionate about their work; hence they were able to earn a huge name for themselves across the world.
