Octopus Paul's predictions: Superstition or something else
The growing FIFA fever across the nation gave another angle to the rising superstition. Paul, the octopus becomes global celebrity
A MONTH long FIFA mania has finally reached its conclusion, with Spain being announced as trophy winners. The month long excitement ended with great fanfare, witnessed across the globe by all football lovers. The event was enjoyed and supported whole heartedly by all nations irrespective of whether there country participating or not. But an unusual thing that was on it’s high and gained everybody’s attention in the month long event were the match predictions. Not by some great astrologer but by a psychic Octopus.

Yes, the famous eight legged oracle, Paul became great source of attention seeker for all match lovers. In fact, those who were not interested in the sport, were glued to watch the match just to witness the history weather Paul’s prediction came true or not. Although there were huge debate on the accuracy of the prediction, but still the match fixation grew tremendously as the finale approaches. Paul came to limelight when he predicted the fate of Germany-Netherlands, where the former team lost match to the latter.

It is believed that whatever Paul has predicted till date, has never gone wrong. With eight picks and eight correct predictions in its kitty, the eight tentacle oracle became globally acknowledged celebrity for its mysterious but true predictions.

Although there is no established fact about Paul’s prediction, but it is said that he chooses the winning team by picking the food out of the box covered with the flag of the team. With each passing day, people’s faith on the newly emerged Baba augmented the superstition in everyone.  A person can be said superstitious if he believes in some extraordinary power without proof of its existence. But with the scientifically unclaimed predictions, the entire world has gone mad with Paul’s prediction. Nobody dared to challenge its declaration ever since it has started predicting the fate of matches.
It is when the oracle selected Spain to win the trophy in the finals, it was declared hero by Spain fans all over the World. Betting was on its high, weather this time again the prediction will become true or not. On the other hand anti-Paul supporters grew manifold.

Extremely furious over Paul’s declaration, they started coming up with recipes to kill and cook the oracle. There was continuous tug-of-war between Germans who want to have Paul in their platter (eat it) and Spaniards who in were in desperate attempt to protect it. Believe it or not but the television networks in Germany, Spain and the Netherlands interrupted their programming to broadcast their octopus overlord's decisions as it was paving way to growing superstition.

When world was slowly reeling with the Paul predictions, suddenly a Parakeet from Singapore emerge in the scene with its piece of prediction. The only difference being the choice of rival team as winner!

Regarding Paul's prediction, following issues are still not clear so that it may be too early to say whether it was mere superstition or something else. The pertinent question here is that who is the Master of the Paul and what makes him/her using Paul for this type of prediction? The other equally important issues are - Octopus's favorite food (and the composition of food that was used), favorite color (whether that affect the behavior of the octopus) and the location of the flags (what were the sides - right or left? and who selected the side)? This prediction has raised two issues - one related to physical science and the other related to spiritual science. Physical science can be tested and verified but Spiritual science is not capable of verifying and testing. The unknown things under the spiritual science lead towards the superstition if not understood rightly. Therefore, this issue needs further verification and discussions.
