It is rightly said by Franklin D. Roosevelt, 'We cannot always build the future for our Youth, but we can build our Youth for the future'.
This is the high time to think on how to inculcate the moral value system, build the personal as well as national character of youth, build self-esteem etc. Our present education system is far away from all these. I must say if the government is really thinking to build the youth then it should focus on these.
Being a development professional I must say this policy is really comprehensive and if implemented properly can bring worth loving changes in the society. But when this may be considered as the accelerators for youth development there are several path holes as well. Today getting a laptop is not a big deal but managing as well as maintaining that is a real challenge, you need to have original Microsoft
, anti- virus and above all, several other maintenance etc. These electronic gadgets have too much recurring costs and do we think the poor youths of village after getting a lap top can borne its maintenance expenses, I doubt.
The government has started not declaring the top 100 list of any board examination and the rationale behind is it may adversely affect other students. Though I am not in favour of this decision of government at all still if we go by this rational then the distribution of few laptops to meritorious students will also affect the adversely to other students.
When our regular schools, colleges and universities are struggling to provide quality education to the students do we believe the provision of open schooling will cater quality education to the youths.
The provision of financial support to youth clubs needs to be done for some constructive work. Without any plan if they distribute the money to the youth clubs then those will be used for unconstructive and may be for unsocial work. This will be another solid challenge for the government.
Few other provisions under this policy are like old wine in new bottle. We have Kishori Shakti Yojana, Project Sabal for adolescent girls group, PMRY for self-employment and the youth know how much these have resulted. Hence, government needs to be little careful this time while executing the whole policy.
