Odisha's high-profile under-trial prisoners
An influential person, who used to lead a luxurious life, flew in hired helicopters, stay in three or five-star hotels, and ran medical colleges with poor men's money is now confined inside Odisha's Jharapada Special Jail as an under-trial prisoner.

Tirupati Panigrahi, managing director of Hi-Tech Group (Hitech Medical College in Bhubaneswar), Rajadhani Estate and Promoters Pvt. Ltd. and his two associates Tirupati Choudhury and Madhusudan, Odia Film Producer and newspaper owner Ratikant Kanungo, and former Bank Manager K. C. Nayak are among the list of high-profile under-trials.  

The Secretary General Odisha Janamorcha Jagneshwar Babu, Pradeep Sethy, Director, AT Group and AT Group newspaper editor Srikrishna Padhi are also in custody at Jharapada Jail. The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch arrested Tripati Panigrahi and his two associates on charges of land frauds involving crores of rupees.  The Economic Offences Wing also froze 147 accounts in 18 banks with a deposit of Rs. 3 crore.  Panigrahi, who lived a miserable life in the prime of his life, later amassed wealth through alleged illegal methods.  

Ratikant Kanungo and K. C. Nayak were arrested by the CBI in connection with a gold loan fraud of Rs. 13.22 crore.  Similarily, the Vigilance officials arrested Janamorcha Secretary General Jagneshwer Babu on charges of illegally disbursing a loan of 36.18 crore to a Sugar mill in his capacity as President of Odisha State Cooperative Bank.  

Quite interestingly, police have arrested Pradeep Sethy of AT Group and three other directors for allegedly duping over 50000 customers across the state involving 500 crores. Sethy is reported to have led a luxurious house and maintained a fleet of cars at the cost of the depositors.

Meanwhile, police have also discovered that Artha Tatwa (AT group) chairman cum MD Pradeep Sethy and Seashore MD Prashant Das have made multi-crore investments in different sectors, including media and gold trading.
