Taxi stands, bus stands and auto rickshaw stands are a common sight at all railways stations, but Ahmednagar Railway station boasts of something unusual - it has an official tanga (horse cart) stand.
It stands nicely at the front entrance of the railway station with at least three or four horse carts always waiting for savari (passengers). Travellers can hitch a ride in these carts pulled by horse and the fare is similar to what auto rickshaws charge.

Horses are in good shape with nice built-up and the carriage also appears to be perfect. Needless to say the carriage is environment friendly and you can enjoy a princely ride.
Railways can take pride in maintaining some of the old customs and traditions of commutation even today by allowing tanga stand to serve the public. At times when pollution has reached disastrous levels, this mode of transportation is a laudable step taken by the railways.
