Oil slick dissolves popping up many questions in Gulf

AS THE oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico is dissolving at a faster pace there are several environmental concerns have popped up. The use of chemicals to ward off the oil slick will take its toll on the aquatic life.

There are very few patches of surface oil now and only a few tar balls could be seen in the affected area. The oil rig exploded on April 20 affecting thousands of square miles of area with a thick oil slick on the surface.

The rescue works and clean-up have been going on and the visible effect has vanished. The problem what is invisible is the effect of chemicals as well as the oil on the aquatic life and subsequently on human beings who will be eating the sea food from the region.

Though the dissolution of the slick has (should) reduce the risk of animals being killed by the oil or being forced to leave their habitat but many problems still linger.

It is still unknown what effect this spill and the chemicals would take on the aquatic animals. Two government reports have said that though the toxic compound concentration in the water is low but at the same time there is a decline in oxygen level in water.

This issue of effects of the spill will keep our scientists occupied for many years as it was one of its first kinds.
