Olympic shame: 45 minute bus ride takes gruelling 4 hours

The organisers of the London Olympics need to wake up, as they have been facing major embarrassment in the run up to the Games. The most recent one - for a forty-five minute drive to the Games Village, the athletes, officials and journalist had to face gruelling four hours in the buses.

FIRST IMPRESSION is the last impression. This is the phrase that the organisers of the London Olympics would not want to hear after Monday's incident as the first set of the Olympic athletes and officials traveling in three buses took around four hours to reach the Olynpics village from Heathrow airport as aginst expected 45 minutes.

The organisers of the Games were not able to explain as to what and how did this happen. But, as it seems that the driver must not have been aware of the route to be taken to reach the village. The bus did have a GPS device to make it easier for the driver, still he failed in his duty.

But, there are some important questions that assume importance after this situation. How can the driver be so careless and not know the route? Were these drivers not trained? Imagine the same situation, when an athlete fails to reach the venue for an event during the Games. During the time , who is to be blamed? Hence the authorities need to put a serious check upon it to avoid such embarrassment in the future.

One has to agree that the London Olympics has not started off on a good note. Earlier too, they faced security problems, as one of the biggest security firms, G4S, which was in charge of providing security for the Games disappointed, as they did not have enough trained security for the Games too. As a result of which regular British soldiers had to be deployed too.

If such kind of embarrassing moments are repeated, the host city would be ridiculed, as a lot of money has gone into making 2012 Olympics as the best ever Olympic Games - considered to be one of the most expensive Games ever.
