Olympics, its glory, power and spectacle
Man has, from time immemorial, tried to transcend the limits he himself has set in the past. He is always unsure on the potential he possesses and in the process of exploring his true nature, has gone beyond and opened the doors, which to his surprise, have revealed to him a creature with much more capabilities and appetite for excellence.

TAKE FOR instance in the 70s, we were happy landing on the moon but when this success was overdone and became distasteful in just a matter of years, man went on and travelled millions and millions kms away - finally landing on the Red planet Mars.

He has stood on podiums and stages where he can gauge his hidden inertia, making Mother Nature proud of her creations. One such mammoth paltform is the Olympics, with its earliest version taking place in 1896, which brought together 14 nations and 241 atheletes - competing for 43 different events. This platform measuring the physical-mental strength and endurance of the homo sapiens, has over the ages, been able to bring together atheletes from far -  augmenting the concept of Globalisation. In latest July-August 2012 London Olympics - around 10,000 atheletes from 204 different nations registered for the event.

Men and women showed superhuman capabilities, truly exemplifying how Olympics have become home to the finest atheletes in the world. Substantiating the point, atheletes like Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps, to name a few, outdid their own established definition of success in their sports. The persona of the event is so mesmerizing that it forced these atheletes to work hardee - churning out their every bit of thier talent, and surpass the prior established herculean records.

But yes, like any big platform, the Olympics has been used by individuals and parties to promote their political ideologies. From its very inception it has been the podium to garner political mileage for varied groups. Like the much talked about “Black Power Salute” from two American track and field atheletes Tommie Smith and John Carlos in the 1968 summer Olympics in Mexico Vity. Nazi Germany to portray the “Nationalist Socialist Party” as peace loving and benevolent had hosted the 1936 games. It has also seen atheletes illegitimately consuming drugs to build superhuman atheletic capabilities.

But if we set aside all these controversies and criticisms, the brand of Olympics has undoubtedly helped create a world that's fitter both physically and mentally. It has inspired the youth to work in the hardest possible way and wave their country's flags with glory in the biggest sporting arena. Even our cricketing nation is drawn into it's mighty illuminous light - so much so that we are beginning to create better environment for our athelets to shine at the world's most prestigious sporting extragavanza.
