TAKING A dig at the unruly behaviour of opposition, PDP legislators in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said that the entire act was was aimed for the consumption of public eye and the media.
The chief minister was referring to the throwing of the microphone by PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on the floor of the lower house. “You cannot win elections or hearts of the people by disturbing proceedings, riding on desks and snatching mike and papers from the Speaker,” he said and added that the legislators should be the protectors of law and Assembly procedures.
“The issues of whatever nature they wanted can be raised at the appropriate time during the session, which is more than one month long,” he said.
The Chief Minister was speaking on the obituary references moved in the House by the Speaker, Mohammad Akbar Lone to pay homage to Ram Piara Saraf, Member Constituent Assembly and former MLA, Mansukh Raj, Member Constituent Assembly and former MLC, Ghulam Rasool Dar, former MLA, Jagdish Raj Dubey and Ghulam Moni-ud-din-Shawl former Parliament Member.
Omar said that there are set parliamentary precedences and procedures to conduct the business of the House and whenever obituary references are tabled in the House, the members concentrate on highlighting the role of departed leaders to pay respect and homage to them.
