An official spokesman of the J&K Government told that as a goodwill gesture, Omar Abdullah pardoned the suspended Head Constable Abdul Ahad Jan, the shoe-thrower, and asked the police to withdraw the case against him.
THE MAN, who earned notoriety by hurling a shoe towards Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during the Independence Day function in Srinagar’s high security Bakshi Stadium, has been let off for the act.
And the order for his release was conveyed by none other than the Chief Minister himself, who had become the victim of the shoe-thrower Abdul Ahad Jan. Jan was also invited by the Chief Minister to his residence. An official spokesman of the J&K Government said that as a goodwill gesture, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah pardoned the suspended Head Constable Abdul Ahad Jan, the shoe-thrower and has also asked the police to withdraw the case against him.
Releasing him on "extremely compassionate grounds’’, the spokesman said Omar called Jan to his residence and gave him a patient hearing after which he directed the police authorities to release him immediately. While ordering his release, Omar said "the holy month of Ramzan teaches us to be compassionate and to forgive everyone. My steps are in conformity with the teachings of Islam which does not teach hatred but only love and brotherhood." The spokesman also released a photograph to the media which showed Omar and Ahad Jan seated together. While walking out of the Chief Minister’s private office at his Srinagar residence, the suspended police official was overwhelmed with the Chief Minister’s gesture and was seen in tears, the spokesman said. Jan must have been pardoned for the act of hurling a shoe towards the Chief Minister but a case stands already registered against him in other offence for which he was suspended in May 2010.Will Jan be let off for that act also?
