On creating a camera painting
Camera shake while taking usual photos is considered bad as it spoils the sharpness of the picture. But with point sources of light in dark surroundings, camera shakes with deliberate movement can produce art work.
ART WORK with camera and light is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving the camera. This kind of photography can be traced back to the year 1914 when Frank Gilbreth used small lights and the open shutter of a camera to track the motion of lights.
Light painting by moving the camera, also called camera painting is done at night or in a dark room. The hand held camera is used like a paintbrush for making patterns and create abstract artistic images.
By setting a camera at a longer exposure time, a variety of light sources ranging from single or multiple light sources like flashlights, festival lights, candles, matches, fireworks, lighter flints, glowsticks, etc. can be used for camera painting.
The inset picture is a camera painting created by me with the camera shake in front of a string of Diwali festival lights.
