Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is doing everything right till the moment. No apparent hiccups to their strategies and people are loving the whole 'Anil-Kapoor-nayak' feel to Arvind Kejriwal. They are trying to bring in as many members on board through their membership drive as possible via email.
'Main Bhi Aam Aadmi' campaign with an enormous target at hand brings to mind whether the number is real or just a gimmick. The fact that they want to accumulate members and are doing it through unconventional means is evident.
Talking about the same, Ranesh Yadav, Convener of Haryana AAP said, ''1 crore is a small number. The way things are going we would have registered many more members.''
He further added, ''anyone can be a AAP's registered member. There are only two stipulation- he/she must be 18 years of age and they must not be associated with any other political party. On can leave another party to join AAP.''
The newsletter sent out by the AAP to a number of people looks like a Corporate newsletter. On being questioned regarding the same, Nisha Singh, Councilor from MCG's Ward No. 30, said, ''Mails are the most cost effective way to reach out to people. It is the cheapest media and since we have less budget, it is the best way. It is a good thing that you compared us to the corporates as corporates work efficiently by using these cost effective methods.''
The mails, which was sent across by AAP is:
Your party (AAP) has launched a nation wide campaign to recruit members across the country. Our target is 1 crore members by January 26. This will establish a strong foundation of your party for the Lok Sabha elections in a few months.
Your party needs your help. We request you to reach out to your friends and family and encourage them to become members. If each one of you enrols 10 members each, we will reach our membership goal. Becoming a member is simple.
1. Join us online.
2. Send an SMS to 07798220033 with the name, STD Code and the Vidhan Sabha name of the member.
During this membership drive, there is no membership fee.
Help us reach the 1 crore target by January 26. Please forward this email to your friends and family.
This is a cost effective method but are the people impressed?
A resident of Gurgaon, who wishes to stay anonymous said, ''It is their way of bringing on a crowd, which other political parties do through lectures and rallies. Since they have a lesser budget, they have opted for this way. If the 1 crore members happen, then they have another headline and some more publicity. Moreover, they are creating a database with promotion, which would be helpful in the long run.''
