IN THE next five years there would be around 1 lakh Indian Army soldiers along the Indo-China border. The Ministry of defence has also approved a huge budget of around Rs 64,000 crore for this strategic deployment reported The Times of India. The budget would also be used for raising new divisions along the Indo-China border.

The budget package for this long-term plan, a massive Rs 64,000 crore, is one of the biggest in the history of the Indian army, which explains the seriousness of the matter. After the Indo-Chinese war of 1962, this could probably be the first time that India has decided to increase its army along the Indo-China border in such a manner. The budget takes into planning not only an increase in its army, but also expenditure to bring in more equipment such as additional ultra-light Howitzers (artillery weapon) for mountains, and helicopters etc. New helipads, and Air strips are also being planned.  

While the decision by India is a crucial one, it needs to be considered in a larger perspective as even the one lakh soldiers when deployed may not be sufficient as China is said to have a huge budget estimated at $150 billion, which would easily help in bringing in around 5 lakh soldiers along the border, if China wants to increase their strength along the Indo-China border.
