One LeT ultra killed in Jammu
Army together with police, SDF and Rashtirya Rifles gunned down a militant in Jammu today. According to the sources, he was a new recruit in terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba. A pistol, three pistol rounds and a hand grenade were also recovered from him
A NEWLY recruited Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) ultra was killed in Doda district in Jammu on November 25. Reports from Doda district said that based on specific information about the presence of Lashkar militant inside a residential house, special task force and troops of 10 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) under four Sector Delta Force of launched a joint operation in Gurmul area of Doda. Security personnel managed to eliminate one LeT ultra.

The deceased ultra has been identified as Riaz Ahmed Sheikh, code Abu Qasim, son of Abdul Hamid Sheikh of Gurmul Doda.

One 7.62 mm Chinese pistol with three pistol rounds, one hand grenade, one mobile phone and six AK rounds were recovered from his possession.

The owner of the house, in which the ultra was hiding has been arrested for questioning.

Official reports said that Riaz’s elder brother Mukhtiyar Ahmed Sheikh had joined LeT ranks after snatching the rifle of special police officer earlier this year. He was actively involved in motivation and recruitment of local youth in rural area of Doda. His brother Riaz had joined militancy in June 2008.

Police and army have launched a search operation to flush the militants out.

Police, however, claimed that a major tragedy has been averted by the security forces when they timely recovered grenades and ammunition in Rajouri district where the second phase of polls was scheduled to be held in the next morning.

On a specific information a joint party of police and 48 RR recovered one UBGL, 11 UBGL shells , 89 pistol rounds, seven Chinese grenade and one bag in general area of Swari under the jurisdiction of police station Kandi during the intervening night of November 22 and 23, 2008.
